Please find below information which is being circulated on behalf of Highways England relating to the ongoing work to replace the Romsey Road bridges over the M27.
This complex project requires a full motorway closure in both directions this coming weekend between Junctions 3 and 4, from 10pm on Friday 28 June to 5am on Monday 1 July, although Highways England are indicating they hope to open the motorway sooner if everything goes to plan.
Westbound diversion routes
These routes are different from the previous weekend closure in September 2018. Light vehicles will be diverted via M3 J11 to the A3090 through Romsey and then along the A36 to M27 J2. Lorries will be diverted off the motorway at M27 J5, along the A27 to Chilworth Roundabout, then along the A27 through North Baddesley and south via the A3057 onto the M271, re-joining the M27 at J3.
Eastbound diversion route
Light vehicles on the M27 originating from the A31 heading to London/M3 will be signed off the motorway at M27 J2 to use the A36 and then the A3090 through Romsey towards M3 J11. Lorries will be diverted off the above route at Romsey and directed onto the A27. They will then be routed through North Baddesley to Chilworth Roundabout, where they will join the A33 and then the M3 northbound (This is to avoid the low bridges on the A3090.)
Traffic of any type on the M27 originating from the A31 and heading east, e.g. from Bournemouth to Portsmouth, will be signed off the motorway at M27 J3 then along the M271 and A3057 northbound. At Romsey traffic will join the A27 eastbound, heading through North Baddesley and Chilworth Roundabout to re-join the M27 at J5.
